Question 2.2.
Heginbotham (2017) argues that users of technology and the
internet has left a digital footprint. For example, when we use cell phones or
bank cards we are transferring it to the server with our personal information,
which makes it very difficult to remove yourself from the digital world.
Heginbotham (2017) argues that your digital footprint only becomes
a problem when there is something on the internet that you don’t want there,
for example, an inappropriate photo. Due
to the invasion of privacy this could decrease your chance of getting a job or
into university. With that being said it is also possible for your digital
footprint to be useful, for connecting with old friends and having a good
reputation online.
Heginbotham (2017) argues that therefore it is impossible for us
to remove our digital footprint because we all use electronic devices that are
transmitting data every second, and a digital footprint will not become a
problem if you have a good reputation online.
Heginbotham (2017) argues that there are a few ways in which you
can manage your footprint:
·
You can start by not giving anyone your passwords.
·
Do not post anything on a social media app that you do not want
your family or friends to see.
·
Make sure that any social media app that you are using, for
example, Facebook is set to private.
·
Make sure that the websites you are using are safe and certified.
